What Future Guitar Hero Games Could we See?
Ever since the release of the first Guitar Hero game back in 2005, they have been a huge hit. Up until now Guitar Hero have released 10 different games, the first ones being based more on guitars. More recently, with the introduction of Rock Band, Activision has been forced to make the games include a number of instruments.
However, Guitar Hero have 3 games in the pipe, but this time, they are trying to get the edge over Rock Band with a non guitar based music game.
The 3 upcoming Guitar Hero games are called Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero and finally DJ Hero. The first one, Guitar Hero 5, is a standard Guitar Hero game, featuring the standard instruments as well as a 85 strong set list. Alongside this game, a new guitar controller is being released which is improved on the previous model.
The next game up is Band Hero, this one is very similar to Guitar Hero 5, however it’s more of a family based game. This is just one way which Activision are trying to win over the family gaming market.
The final game on the list is DJ Hero. This is something that we have never seen in the video game market, and it’s free for Activision to benefit from. The game will benefit from a new controller, the DJ Deck. As the game is targeting a new gaming market, it’s not possible to work out whether or not the game will be a big hit. Although, if the game becomes successful, will Activision be releasing a whole new range of Guitar Hero games? Obviously not called Guitar Hero. Plus, if DJ Hero is successful, will Rock Band release their own game range of compete with Guitar Hero.
There are a large number of gaming markets that none of the music game companies have been targeting. One being piano players amoung us. No doubt a Piano Hero game would be popular because you would get both modern piano players, as well as more classical players who prefer to play grand pianos.
Another angle that could be considered would be a classical version of Guitar Hero. Classical guitars are hugely popular and by bringing out a video game like Classical Guitar Hero, you would almost be entering a new market because the age of the player would be different to the age of a standard Guitar Hero player.
Those were just 2 game ideas that came into my head, but whether they would be created is a totally different matter. Whether or not these games are preduced comes down to how well DJ Hero does in the market and how much money is made for Activision. Another problem they would have is working out whether a new game like Classical Guitar Hero would make any money for them.
Every one of these factors would affect the game production, but hopefully we will see some of these games being released in the future.
