Snacking Without The Fats

Published by in genral on November 24th, 2011

Did you know that when you are on a diet, if you eat something and no one sees you – it doesn’t contain any calories! Of course that’s not true…but it is how many of us think!

Do you eat when you are bored, upset or angry? Do you need a chocolate bar everyday? If you are trying to lose pounds, then you may feel guilty about snacking. So what does happen at around 4pm? (This especially affects women) This often is the time of the day when the “Snack Monster” takes control of them! Some berate themselves for being weak, out of control and without discipline. They would end up abandoning their diet or develop some counter thoughts so they will feel better. “It doesn’t count because it’s fat free.” Or, “No one notices, so it really doesn’t count.”

The good thing is that losing weight can be possible without having to starve yourself or feel guilty. You control your urge to snack, and healthy snacking can help you lose weight. You must choose snacks that can give you more energy and vitality so you won’t feel guilty.

In healthy snacking, go for foods that: Can appease your hunger, Supply your body with energy, and Provide important nutrients

Look for foods that contain the following.

Whole grain. Whole-grain snacks are rich in complex carbohydrates and fibre, which give you immediate energy that has some staying power. Consider items such as low-fat whole-grain crackers and whole-grain crisp breads.

Fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain no fat and very little calories, and eating them will make you feel really full. They also provide vitamins, minerals, fibre and other nutrients.

Seeds and nuts. Nuts and seeds are protein-rich, and this means you’ll feel full longer if you eat them. Nuts and seeds are high in calories, however, so don’t eat them in large quantities.

Dairy products that are low-fat. Cheese, yogurt and other dairy products are good sources of calcium, protein, and other nutrients. Just be sure to get the low-fat versions.

You must prepare healthy snacks good for your entire week, and store some at home and some at your workplace.
